The Linux Interest Group is here to help members learn about Linux operating systems and the applications that come with it.
Members can learn how to install a Linux OS and use Linux applications on their own computers and tablets, with help and support from other members.
What is Linux, and why use it?
“Linux” is the generic name for many different flavours of Linux-based computer operation systems.
A Linux OS can breath new life into older devices because it is much less demanding on system resources than, say, Microsoft Windows.
Linux is also more privacy-focused than commercial operating systems because it is not sending your usage data back to a multinational corporation.
Linux is also more secure. It is less targeted by hackers and because it is open source software, it is continually scrutinised and enhanced by thousands of developers around the globe. It receives ongoing, frequent updates and effectively has no expiry date.
And, importantly, it’s free! No more annual subscriptions for security software, or to keep using the applications on your computer (although, if you really like an application, you may choose to make a donation to the developer – it’s up to you).
Come and join us!
Come and learn about Linux in a friendly and supportive environment.
If you know nothing about it, we are here to help you learn.
If you know a lot about it, you can help others learn.
Sessions are held every 1st Wednesday a month from 10am – 12 pm.
